Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused four generations of the Gandhi family of manipulating the Indian Constitution for political gain during their tenures. In an interview with DD News, he criticized former Prime Ministers Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Modi said, "The first one to play with the Constitution is this family. Pandit Nehru did. He brought the First Amendment, which was meant to restrict freedom of speech. His daughter (Indira Gandhi) then overturned the court verdict by bringing an amendment. She imposed an 'emergency' to save her post. Then her son (Rajiv Gandhi), came and overturned Shah Bano's verdict. He changed the Constitution. He brought a law to restrict media." He further criticized Rahul Gandhi for publicly tearing apart a Union Cabinet ordinance in 2013.
Modi emphasized his respect for the Constitution and Babasaheb Ambedkar, highlighting how the Constitution allowed a tea-seller to become the Prime Minister. He added, "For me, the Constitution is the greatest scripture for governing." Modi also discussed his view of political office as a responsibility, not a pursuit of prestige, and stressed the importance of women's power and the development of eastern India for the country's future. Additionally, he claimed that the INDIA bloc has collapsed in the recent polls and expressed confidence in achieving a majority of over 400 seats in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
